An Appeal From Bright Sparks.....

Hi
My names is Dorothy Darnbrough I run a drama group for youngsters age 6 to 13 years at Tranmere School, Guiseley. The group has been established for over 7years and averages approximately fifty members. We perform a show at Guiseley Theatre every year. This year we will be performing the musical Toys, although this is a fun show for the whole family it also has a serious note to it, exploring racism and oppression.

In September I wish to expand the group to enable young people with physical and/or learning disabilities to have access to drama and performing. At the moment I am trying to establish whether this would be popular. I would like to hear from youngsters aged between 10 to 14 or their parents who would be interested and also youngsters aged 13 and over who be interested in becoming working partners.
Contact Dorothy at 12, Canada Road,Rawdon,Leeds,LS19 6LR

At the end of last term a helicopter paid a visit and made a spectacular landing in the grounds of Guiseley Infants School. The children (and teachers) were enthralled by the visit and had lots of questions for the captain. Pictures courtesy of Steve North ART 491

Restoration of Guiseley Wells gets under way
GUISELEY Wells, believed to situated where the town was originally established more than a 1,000 years ago are being restored.
The work is being supported by a grant from the Millennium Awards Scheme of £4,900 and aims to clear away the debris and restore the surrounding paving.
The Wells - at the corner of Springfield Road and Butts Lane - have in recent years fallen into disrepair and are covered in algae and silted up with sand and earth.
Volunteer helpers have already removed a skip full of sand and earth and have dug down into the fast flowing Wells to a depth of about three feet. They have got down to the original paving stones at the the base of the Wells and have found a few old coins but nothing of value.
The next step will be to extend the paved area around the Wells and to point and repair the surrounding walls.
The water which comes from the springs on the moors above Guiseley, can now be clearly seen and it is estimated that it is flowing through the Wells at a rate of 60 million gallons a year.
